NGO Partner Information: Save the Children India

Huron is proud to be partnered with Save the Children India (STCI) for this virtual innovation camp. Students will work to create solutions to challenges STCI has identified for their organization. These innovation solutions could be implemented following the bootcamp as key members of the NGO will be participating throughout the camp to ensure students are creating realistic and valuable solutions.

STCI is 32 year old Indian-founded and based NGO working to ensure education, protection and skilling for vulnerable women and children across Maharashtra, Delhi and NCR. Last year alone, they impacted over 100,000 individuals across Maharashtra and Delhi.

STCI envisions India as a Child-Friendly Nation. It is committed to preventing exploitation and all other forms of discrimination of vulnerable women and children, and empowering them to lead a life of dignity, self-respect, and independence.

Innovation Camp Agenda Overview

Day 1 of Bootcamp

Enjoy an opening ceremony with greetings from Huron’s President, Dr. Barry Craig, a civic leader, and the CEO of Save the Children India, Havovi Wadia.

You’ll then begin to learn all about Design Thinking Methodology & Innovation, and receive your Challenge assignment

Day 2 of Bootcamp

You’ll start brainstorming solutions to challenges with your peers all while receiving feedback from Save the Children India

Interactive Lecture with Huron Professor, Dr. Steve Bland, Chair of Huron’s Philosophy Department

Experience an interactive sample lecture that will give you a glimpse into what you would experience in a Huron classroom. See for yourself how innovative, creative-thinking is valued in a Liberal Arts education and get a head-start on knowing what post-secondary learning challenges you to think and explore.

Dr. Bland studies issues in the theory of knowledge, including: the limits of knowledge; common obstacles to knowledge; and the status of scientific knowledge. He makes a concerted effort to apply what he learns in his research to his teaching on these topics.

Day 3 of Bootcamp

Turn your ideas into reality as you learn about the art of prototyping and begin to work on creative solutions to your assigned challenge Looking for some inspiration and guidance? We’re bringing a very special guest to share their real life experiences with you! Enjoy a talk and interactive Q+A session with Vivek Prabhu, a graduate of the Huron Class of 2013.

Vivek is a former advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada and is now Vice President, Public Affairs at the international public relations organization, Hill+Knowlton Strategies. Hear from Vivek on how to use your new camp skills and Huron education to prepare your for the careers and global challenges of the future, and how these skills prepared him for all the dynamic experiences he’s had in his career so far.

Day 4 of Bootcamp

On this final day, you will prepare for your pitches! Using all the skills, guidance, creative thinking and inspiration from your first few camp days, you’ll pitch your challenge solution to Mrs. Havovi Wadia, CEO of Save the Children India.

Wondering how to use your new-found skills and experiences to prepare you for university? We’re bringing current university students to share their tips and advice for how to prepare for life after high school. Who better to hear it from than current students who are involved in undergraduate research, student government, and have experienced the benefits of Huron’s student services, such as the offerings from our Career Development office – guaranteed paid internships, valuable volunteering opportunities, and career preparation workshops.

Camp Registration

Fee: $200 CAD for this 4-day interactive, virtual innovation camp. Payment will be taken through secure gateway by credit card (VISA or MasterCard) during the online registration process.
