Huron Student Support Services

Huron students have access to many services developed to help them meet their academic goals. Many of these services are offered in a supportive setting with one-to-one counselling that may not be available at larger institutions.

Student Life
& Support Services

This one-stop location brings together Admissions & the Registrar's Office, Student Support Services, and Housing and Student Life. Students can find the help, support and connections they need in one convenient location.
Academic Advising
Provides all Huron students with the opportunity to meet with an Academic Advisor to discuss course choices, program and degree options, program requirements and academic success strategies to guide them towards positive outcomes within their educational progression.
International Opportunities We offer several opportunities for students to critically engage in the global world including participating in semester or year long exchanges. Students can also get involved in the planning of academic and cultural activities with international and exchange students settling in to the Huron community.
Co-curricular Learning
Students may volunteer with a community organization like Museum London as part of an academic course, participate in international community-development projects or complete a MOS internship
Writing Services
Whether you are a first-year student or seasoned undergrad, Writing Services is here for you! We offer scheduled appointments and drop-in writing consultations to help you get the most out of your assignments. Find us on the mezzanine of the Huron Library.
Summer Transition Sessions
Start in June and continue until the end of July. These in-person sessions are designed to help new students select the appropriate first-year courses to meet their academic goals and prepare for the university experience.

Student Computing
The Huron Computer Lab has 36 up-to-date computers with a variety of applications including internet access, scanning and printing facilities. The lab is open extensive hours with a staff member on duty to provide assistance. Huron also has a media pod for creating and editing audio, music, web design, video and print. Wireless internet access is available throughout the Huron campus. Internet access, both wired and wireless, is available in residence through RezNet with extends the campus-wide network and high speed Internet right to the students' room.
The Chaplaincy
Is open, accessible and multi-faith as the community itself. The Chaplain is available for counsel and direction and Chaplaincy programs are focused on developing the whole person including spirituality and faith. While the Chapel is a functioning parish within the Anglican Church, and the Chaplain a priest of that Church, the Chaplaincy maintains a progressive and open view to all religious convictions.
The Huron University College Library
Provides a variety of learning spaces, access to physical and virtual research collections, information technology, and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Learning spaces include silent, quiet and conversation-friendly zones. The circulating collection contains over 150,000 items selected to support Huron course work. Students have access to thousands of online books and journals through the Library website. The Library provides wireless access allowing students to bring their personal technology to use in completing their research and study. PC computers and iPads are available for use along with printing and scanning facilities. Students can drop by the Research Help desk for research assistance or book a research consultation. Library hours fluctuate during the academic year; for current hours information visit the Library website. Note that Huron students may also make sure of resources provided by Western Libraries, the library system of Western University.
Leadership & Professional Development Certificate
Huron's innovative Leadership and Professional Development (LPD) Certificate takes the skills and knowledge that students acquire in courses and puts them into practice through hands-on-experience.

As a Huron student you also have access to Western Student Support Services:

  • Student Development Centre (SDC) - Located in Western Student Services Building just across the street from Huron on Western's main campus, the SDC provides many support services, counselling and workshops for students in many areas
  • Student Health Services (SHS) - Available in the UCC (University Community Centre), SHS offers a wide range of medical and counselling services to all students.
  • Western's Foot Patrol - volunteers will provide a safe escort to any residence or building, ensure you reach your car in the parking lot, or wait with you at the bus stop
  • Western's Campus Police -  also patrol Huron's campus
  • Western Student Rec Centre - offers recreation and sport for everyone (fitness classes, free use of facilities, sports at the intramural, club and varsity level)
