Apply to be a Don



Residence Don is a position held by upper-year undergraduate students.  As a Don, you'll live in residence and help to develop a community that is supportive of the academic and personal goals of students.

You will be a role model to approximately 30 students, encouraging residence activities and ensuring that residence policy is being followed.  This is considered to be one of the most prestigious and rewarding leadership opportunities a student can have.

The primary aim of the Department of Housing and Student Life is to provide students with a positive residence experience, conducive to successful academic study and personal development.  We endeavour to foster residence communities that are safe, comfortable and that meet the needs of our diverse residence population.
  • Residence Manager

  • The day-to-day management of our Residence Life Program is handled by our Residence Manager.  The Residence Manager is also responsible for the supervision and training of the Dons, building management, advising residents, and handling conduct and discipline issues.
  • Head Dons

  • Huron has two Head Dons who are generally in their third or fourth year of the university program. Head Dons are responsible for academic and social programming for residents. Head Dons provide support and leadership to the Dons and assist the Residence Manager with the day-to-day operations of the Residence Life Program.
  • Dons

  • A Don's primary responsibility is to foster a sense of community while assisting residents with their transition to university, enforcing residence policies, providing educational and community building programming, and advising students on how to have a positive, healthy and successful residence and university experience.
  • Qualifications

  • The Selection Committee strives to build a Residence Life Staff with students who possess a variety of experiences and talents. We look for candidates with excellent communication skills, proven leadership ability, and a desire to help others. Candidates must be in good academic standing.
  • Selection Process

  • The selection process is comprised of several stages:
    • an application, read the instructions on the application and ensure you follow all the steps
    • all applicants are required to participate in a group carousel interview. Applicants will be notified by email when the sign-up sheet is available
    • following the screening of applications, references and observations from the group carousel interview process, candidates will then be short-listed and offered a personal interview
    • final decisions will be made following the personal interview process
  • Timelines

  • Head Don Application Deadline:  Thursday, January 18th, 2018 by 4:00 pm

    Don Application Deadline:  Monday, February 5th, 2018,  by 4:00 pm

    Group Carousel Interviews:  Saturday, February 10th, 2018 (casual attire)

    Personal Interviews:  Monday, February 12th - Thursday, February 15th, 2018 (business attire)

    Final decisions will be released on Friday, February 16th, 2018.
